WHY DID I DECIDE TO EMBARK ON MY JOURNEY AS A COPY and CONTENT WRITER?
When I think about my love of writing, I think about the power that language has to change situations and perspectives for the better. I have always enjoyed being able to persuade, inform and, articulate my viewpoints either through written or verbal contexts. I also have an interest in openly and vocally supporting products, services or ideas that I really believe in.
So I thought to myself, what job could I possibly undertake to merge these two worlds?
After countless hours of research, I found out about the world of copy and content writing. Here is what I discovered. Copywriters are brilliant marketers all with the added bonus of being able to persuade through written language. Content writers deliver content that informs and educates an audience about a particular area. I remember saying to myself that this could be something I see myself perusing. Writing was something I always had a passion for and wanted to explore.
Whilst the wheels were in motion, I knew that if I was to ever start a business, the service or product I was providing needed to be authentically me. Here are the top 5 reasons that persuaded me to start my copy and content writing business.
1. Passion for writing
I think back to my earliest memory of being engrossed in a good book and being truly taken aback by the way that words on a page can create a real-life visualisation. I was incredibly fascinated by the Harry Potter series. I remember not being able to put it down. There has always been something so magical (pun intended) about it. I simply wanted my writing to evoke the same captivation in others that I felt reading the Harry Potter series. I want people to eagerly anticipate reading my next piece or the release of my next project. My overarching goal and vision are for clients to choose to work with me because of my passion for writing — this was the primary driver behind starting my business.
2. Creativity and expression
The beauty of being a freelance writer is that I am not prescribed to deliver content that is a boxed version of my skill set. I work with the client to collaboratively create copy or written content that is infused with my style. I love the feeling of having the creative freedom to research, compose and edit in a way that suits my workflow. For me, freedom in my work allows me to flourish. When a client hires me, they place trust in my writing style to achieve desired results. That confidence fuels me when working through projects, knowing that there is a sense of trust and recognition.
3. Impact and influence
As I mentioned earlier, I've always desired for my work to leave a lasting impression on readers. My vision was to empower businesses to achieve their goals, freeing them from administrative and marketing demands. I want businesses to approach me based on the impact of my previous work. There's nothing more fulfilling for me than working with individuals whose passion for their product or service is palpable — they can't wait to share what they love with the world. I aspire for my work to make a positive difference and serve as a catalyst for good. Establishing this business was driven by my desire to collaborate with dedicated people that genuinely believe in their offerings. I want my clients to know they're not hiring a robot but a human who can create genuine impact and influence.
4. Global Reach
It has always been a dream of mine to collaborate with businesses worldwide. With a background in education, I am a lifelong learner, constantly fascinated by discovering how people operate across different cities, countries, and continents. Working with remarkable individuals globally has taught me invaluable lessons about myself as both a copywriter and a business owner. I also love the fact that with my job, my work is able to reach global audiences. Sometimes I have pinch-me moments, in awe at the fact that someone on the other side of the globe is reading my work.
5. Branding
I, as a consumer, will always drift towards businesses that are familiar and trustworthy. It is within human nature to gravitate towards what feels comfortable. Before deciding to make the plunge into the world of copywriting, I thoroughly researched the role that a copywriter plays in business presence. Copywriters are responsible for developing an easily identifiable brand for a business. One of my favourite parts of my job is helping your business be recognisably you. I relish that challenge of transcribing how your vision can be played out with words.
