Language is your strength
Welcome to my blog!
I’ve recently embarked on my journey as a content/copywriter and have loved every minute of setting up my business.
Writing, talking and communicating have always been a love of mine. I love being able to write how I feel; touch someone’s heart, stimulate someone’s mind - an action language has been able to enact through most pivotal facets of time. Language has the power to change the course of history. It has the power to mould minds. What a power each and every one of us holds.
Although my content and copywriting business is targeted at working with businesses and professionals in their respective fields, I’ve decided to make my blog posts an ode to my intrusive thoughts. If you’ve ever wondered what it may be like to converse with me - you now have that insight. We are two (or more) minds bouncing ideas, theories and thoughts off each other. Agree with me, or not. I don’t care. That’s what makes us free.
My blog content may change from time to time. You may see me writing about copywriting-specific content, “self-help” business tips and tricks - the content that prospective copywriters and clients want to see. I understand the importance of SEO and keyword optimisation. I understand the importance of backlinks, crawling and indexing. I mean, I do it for a living but that’s a skill I’ve learnt to help my clients seek successful outcomes. Ultimately, it’s my writing that takes your business to the next level.
To me, writing is an art. It feeds the soul. It’s the gift God has bestowed on me. I’ve always written, through the good and the bad. Informative and professional or colloquial and emotive. I now get to voice how I feel on a public forum - showcasing my viewpoint and lens.
Never ever did Marcus Aurelius ever think that “Meditations” would be published for the world to scrutinise and dissect. He wrote about how he felt, showed us the complexities of life and how he dealt with his hardships. He showed us what it was to be human. We as a society have lost the art of expression through writing. It has become monetised, optimised and organised for profit.
To end my spiel, I wanted to dedicate my first post to a brilliant person who’s words will remain with me for a lifetime.
I once worked with a man named David Smith. A highly respected teacher at a school I was working part-time at whilst studying. On our break, David and I would sit together, he would talk about the world and I would listen. His words were like poetry. He was always so well-informed. He was the smartest person I’d ever met and I remembered telling myself I wanted to be as wise as him someday.
To add context to the story, David and I were discussing the Australian Education system and how it had changed over time. David has seen quite a lot over his extensive teaching career. At that point I was disgruntled at how the education system was now functioning and how little support teachers were receiving. I was down in the dumps about my prospective career decision and at how little value I had bestowed on myself as an educator.
I remember venting to him; David quiet the whole time. I had said my piece and then there was silence. It was in this moment of vulnerability that I had heard the most profound comment in my 25 years. He looked at me and said, “Olivia, language is the most powerful weapon in the world. It has the ability to build and destroy societies. You have been given that power for good.”
This blog post is for you, David. Rest easy. You’ll never know how much you’ve inspired me.
